<- 2 METER ->

<- 2 METER -> is a “tool” to raise awareness on social distancing to reduce the spread of COVID-19.
Many British people are more used to feet and inches when referring to a length. The “tool” is a help to illustrate the length of one meter, to visualise the 2 meters recommended for social distancing.

While most people follow the social distancing rules, it can be awkward to speak up and ask someone to take a step back, especially in the UK where people are normally ever so polite.

The “tool” can easily be made by anyone with a few basic utensils, using a broomstick, cardboard and paper.
The suggested design of the stick, with sections marked in 2 and 10 cm clearly illustrate the length of 1 meter.

The hand written text around the top reads, “Please keep your distance <- 2 M ->”. The top shows a smiley face depict of 2 M and a double arrow, to send a friendly signal in these uncertain times when people’s smiles are hidden behind masks.

The “tool” also acts as a walking stick, support to lean on while waiting in a queue or could even be used for self-defence.

While for the foreseeable future, social distancing will be norm, we are all hopeful that these times will pass. When time comes, the broomstick will find itself back in the cupboard and the rest can be recycled.
